The 2006 Pacific Conference for Development Economics is presented by the Bay Area Development Association with sessions chaired by faculty from UC Berkeley, Stanford University, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, University of Southern California, University of San Francisco, St. Mary’s College and Santa Clara University. The goal of the conference is to bring together graduate students, faculty and practitioners to present and discuss various issues facing developing economies today.

The conference is designed to offer attendees a choice of four out of twelve sessions. Each of the conference sessions will consist of presentations of two to four academic research papers in a given area of research. The conference organizers will group papers into coherent themes, and paper presenters are also invited to organize panels on their own for submission to the organizers.

The morning and afternoon sessions are separated by a luncheon with panel discussion. The luncheon speaker for 2006 will be Daniel A. Sumner, speaking on “Effects of farm subsidies on poor farmers: roles of WTO litigation and negotiation.” Professor Sumner is Director of the University of California Agricultural Issues Center and the Frank H. Buck, Jr. Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of California, Davis.
